Prominent database management systems

To manage high volumes of data, database management systems are needed. There are several database systems using a variety of models available in the market. SQL Server database is a relational database system developed by Microsoft in 2005. It has MS-SQL and T-SQL as its primary languages. The T-SQL or Transact Structured Query Language is a tool that can be used to manage SQL servers. The SQL server has a protocol layer that acts as an external interface. There are many features of SQL server that makes it popular. The procedures written in the SQL server are transferred efficiently from server to client using Tabular Data Stream or TDS which is a unique Microsoft format. Another feature is the data storage capability of SQL server; it supports buffer pages which reduces disk Input/ Output substantially thus improving data transfer speeds. SQL Server can handle major transactions and can keep a log of every single transaction thus making it very secure; it also supports concurrent multiple users without risk to data integrity.

Access database system also referred as Microsoft Access is a combination of the MS database engine system, software development tools and graphical user interface or GUI. Access, which has been designed to conform to SQL standards and compatible with ADP files, is well known for its reliability. SQL statements can be developed in Access and embedded into macros and VBA modules which are used for developing forms and logic. Access is specially recommended to be used by professional application developers who have to develop prototypes.
